Hello, my name is Matt, and I’m thrilled you’ve found your way to my portfolio site! My journey into data analytics began in an unexpected place—the emergency room. I started my professional career as an ER nurse, where I spent six years navigating the fast-paced and often unpredictable world of healthcare.

While assisting in a department wide initiative aimed at reducing wait times in our waiting room I found my love for data and the power in its ability to affect change when applied correctly. Seeing a 20% decrease in our wait times and experiencing the satisfaction of solving a complex, long-standing problem sparked a passion in me that I’ve been chasing ever since.

Since that pivotal moment, I’ve transitioned into the world of data analytics, where I now apply my problem-solving skills to uncover insights, build systems, and create solutions that truly make a difference. Drawing on my healthcare background, I bring a unique perspective to my work—combining empathy, precision, and a relentless drive to find answers.

Outside of data, I’m an avid hiker and traveler with a deep love for exploring the natural beauty of the world. I’ve visited many of the breathtaking national parks out west, from the towering cliffs of Yosemite to the surreal landscapes of Arches, and I’m steadily crossing the remaining parks off my list.

Whether improving existing workflows or designing and maintaining new systems, I focus on creating solutions that streamline data gathering, reduce redundancies, and deliver reliable results. My ability to understand the end goals of analysis allows me to approach collection with the big picture in mind.

Raw data is where the story begins. I have extensive experience cleaning and transforming datasets into formats that are ready for analysis. This includes standardizing inconsistent data, handling missing values, and creating calculated columns or derived metrics to uncover deeper insights. My tools of choice—SQL, Python, Power BI and Excel—allow me to approach even the messiest datasets with confidence and precision.
